Help Us Rebuild Harbin Hot Springs
The beautiful restoration of Harbin’s pools was just a first step in our rebuilding journey. The Valley Fire of 2015 destroyed 95% of our buildings and their support infrastructure; it also decimated most Harbin’s forests, and deeply impacted our land, watershed, wildlife and habitat. We expect that the work to restore, rebuild and replace what was lost will be ongoing for many years – continuing even as we welcome guests in a limited way back to the springs, the land, and the unique embrace of Harbin’s community and activities.
After completing the restoration of the pools our construction work was focused on two projects: Harbin’s property-wide water distribution system, and two replacement structures at the Domes. The water system was a significant undertaking allowing us to distribute a greater volume of water from multiple sources to the various developed portions of our main property, as well as sites of future development (such as Harbin Springs Road, where our Warehouse is planned). It’s a forward-thinking project that helps us meet the water needs of a growing Harbin clientele and help us better prepare for and hopefully mitigate any future fires.
The new guest rooms built on the sites of former Domes 1 and 2 were a significant step toward reopening the whole Domes complex for the enjoyment of our guests. Following the completion of these new buildings, as well as the full restoration of the Domes and pools that survived the fire with relatively minimal damage, the Domes complex once again offer our guests an expanded selection of overnight retreat rooms, combined with a soaking alternative to our Mainside pool area.
Following the completion of these projects, we turned our focus back to the Mainside pool area to complete a poolside restroom next to the Health Services pool. In Autumn 2022 we began constructing a new permanent Dressing Room/Steam Room. This complex, which will be tucked into the hillside where Fern used to be is coming along on schedule and will be a significant enhancement to our pool area.
After that, our intention is to begin construction of permanent buildings in our lower Mainside area, including a Restaurant and two Hotel buildings, similar to Azalea and Walnut of years past. Architectural plans are approved, and we are just about ready to begin moving forward with the Restaurant. And once these are complete, we’ll begin the Community Kitchen near the Meadow.
All of these plans, of course, are subject to possibly significant changes in timing and detail. The goal, as always, is to fully restore Harbin’s facilities and services. In the meantime, we intend to keep the springs and all our facilities open as continuously as possible for the enjoyment and wellbeing of our guests. You can help rebuild Harbin.
