Security and Guest Services Associate

Starting Pay: $18/hr
Job type: 24 hrs / week to start, possibly increasing
Shifts are primarily 2pm to 8pm with some 2pm to 10pm

Our Harbin Hot Springs Security and Guest Services Associates are vital staff members in maintaining the sense of peace and harmony that Harbin Hot Springs Heart Consciousness Church promotes in our daily lives and activities. The methods and manners of the Security and Guest Services Associate may be considered unique but is nonetheless professional. Your presence as a Security and Guest Services Associate is important in providing a reassuring and safe environment that allows our guests peace of mind and safety. The position requires employees to serve in a professional manner, under stressful conditions at times, and requires a competent demeanor. Strength, compassion, attentiveness, and flexibility are required.  

Although the Guest Services and Security Department operates on separate subsequent shifts, it forms a cohesive team. Each shift and position are important in maintaining a competent and effective department. This team consists of a combined role of Security Staff and Guest Services Concierge

Guest Services and Security Associates should not operate from a paradigm of power and authority, but rather we maintain and promote the peace and harmony of our retreat. Staff should not take an argumentative and aggressive stance with anybody, and shall remain calm, courteous, and respectful. Staff shall not communicate in a commanding or patronizing way, but rather in a firm and kind manner. Convey Harbin’s agreements and policies with a positive and professional demeanor.  

Each staff member is expected to acknowledge requests made regarding them by our Managing Directors, the Department Manager or Manager on Duty. Staff are also expected to respect one another’s decisions and methods of working, knowing each member brings their own unique talents and personal style of handing responsibility to the job.  

 The Security and Guest Services Associate responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

Guest Services Concierge

The Guest Services Concierge focuses on welcoming guests and seeing that their needs are met, especially the needs of mobility-impaired guests. The Concierge provides golf cart rides, information about Harbin events and services, access to sports equipment, and a friendly point of contact throughout the property. The Concierge supports other departments as needed, particularly the Security Department, but the emphasis is on promoting a positive experience for guests.

The associate should have excellent interpersonal skills, a valid California’s driver’s license, and an ability to work outdoors year-round. They should also be team players and reflect Harbin’s value’s of inclusion, acceptance, and compassion.

Tasks in this position include:

  • Operating a golf cart safely and responsibly to transport guests to and from various locations within the property.
  • Greeting guests professionally and assisting them with any needs or inquiries during the ride.
  • Ensuring the comfort and safety of guests during transportation. 
  • Providing excellent customer service, answering questions, and offering information about the property and its amenities.
  • Assisting with loading and unloading luggage onto the cart.
  • Maintaining a friendly and courteous demeanor to ensure a positive guest experience. 
  • Keeping the golf cart clean and well-maintained.
  • Performing routine inspections and reporting any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Ensuring golf carts are fully charged and ready for use. 
  • Characteristics include being friendly, courteous and following rules and regulations of Harbin Hot Springs.
  • Call departments to notify them of packages that have arrived at the Receiving Area and deliver if possible

Security Staff

In emergencies, assess situations and contact appropriate emergency services (Sheriff, Firefighters, EMT, or our own Emergency Response Team) as needed,  

Patrol the entire Mainside area (including Café, Lounge, Garden, smoking deck, and sun deck) at least once per hour, 

Patrol the Pools, at least twice per hour – cultivate and promote a quiet, safe, and serene atmosphere at the Pools by maintaining a regular and consistent presence in the pool area,  

Patrol the Domes, Meadow, and Tenting Areas, at least four times per shift, 

Check all parking areas closely for general violations (pets, drugs, etc.), paying special attention to guest registrations, but also paying attention to parking/traffic violations/obstructions and issuing tickets for violations as needed (tickets for violations are submitted to Reception or Kiosk), 

Fill out Shift Reports and Safety Checklist,  

Complete all Incident and Injury Reports – shortly after the incident has occurred so it is still fresh in your mind,  

If not responding or dealing with immediate Security issues, support and help other departments and our guests,

Call departments to notify them of packages that have arrived at the Receiving Area,

Be sure the Security facilities are operations for subsequent shifts – the office and vehicles must be cleaned and organized, electric carts must be kept plugged in and vehicles must be kept fueled and parked in their designated areas.  

 

Shift Specifics: 

Day Shift:  

At sunrise, make parking lot rounds – checking car passes in guest vehicles. This is an opportunity to catch trespassers, especially those who are overstaying. 

At 8am, open the Steam Sauna (See Fern Procedures) 

Pay special attention to existing safety hazards that might not be evident in the darker hours of the night – this includes Mainside, parking areas, and tenting areas, 

Take note of suspicious vehicles / persons who might be trespassers or intent on unsafe or inappropriate behavior, 

Check tents for pink tent registration cards, flammable hazards, litter, or any other sorts of hazard (fallen trees, boulders, holes in the ground, etc), 

Maintain good communication and relations with other departments on property, and, 

Be sure all tickets, reports, notices, and memos are properly distributed or displayed for the rest of the department. 

 

Evening Shift: 

At 6pm- close Steam Sauna (See Fern Procedures) 

Pay special attention to lighting around Harbin – make sure to check the safety checklist, 

Witness and sign cash safe drops for closing departments in a discreet manner,  

After business hours, check to make sure the doors are locked to the Staff Lounge, Blue Room Café, and warehouse buildings/offices, 

Make sure no one is sleeping/tenting overnight in any inappropriate areas such as Events Center, Garden, Sundecks, etc.  

Take note of suspicious vehicles / persons who might be trespassers or intent on unsafe or inappropriate behavior, 

Check tents for pink tent registration cards, flammable hazards, litter, or any other sorts of hazard (fallen trees, boulders, holes in the ground, etc), 

Maintain good communication and relations with other departments on property, and, 

Be sure all tickets, reports, notices, and memos are properly distributed or displayed for the rest of the department. 

 

Overnight Shift: 

Keep in support and contact with the Kiosk personnel. Kiosk and Security are the only two departments who are present and on duty, 

Pay special attention to the behavior of our guests and employees, at the pools, monitor for sexual activity, theft, conversations, loud talking/behavior, and intoxications – nighttime is a peak time for such activity, check pools twice an hour, 

Lock rooms and facilities at appropriate times, 

Note any change in pool water, color, smells, or levels. Contact the Pools Department if needed, 

Be alert to late night gatherings and parties at the pools, decks, camping areas, rooms, domes, and parking lots, 

Make sure no one is sleeping/tenting overnight in any inappropriate areas such as Events Center, Garden, Sundecks, etc., check at least once per hour 

Take note of suspicious vehicles / persons who might be trespassers or intent on unsafe or inappropriate behavior – check for persons wandering or loitering in areas where guests are not allowed, such as Autoshop area, Housekeeping, etc.  

Check tents for pink tent registration cards, flammable hazards, litter, or any other sorts of hazard (fallen trees, boulders, holes in the ground, etc), 

Be sure all tickets, reports, notices, and memos are properly distributed or displayed for the rest of the department.
