Learn about the development of Harbin EcoFarm

Summer 2025: Our first test plot is thriving. As July begins, we're planting tons of tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, flowers and more.

Sheep have returned! As you approach Harbin you might be surprised to see herds of sheep munching the dry grass along the roadsides helping reduce the risk of fire by clearing the land.

Spring 2025: We have been working hard on conservation planning for Harbin EcoFarm, as well as getting basic infrastructure in place. So far, we have a new electrical panel and the installation of power to our well.

Over the winter, we prepared a 1 acre test plot and planted wildflowers and red clover for healthy soil. We are currently raising money for infrastructure necessities like trees and bushes for windbreaks, a 100 foot hoop greenhouse, road paving and irrigation.

What is the Grant?
Heart Consciousness Church received a grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Office of Environmental Farm and Innovation, called the Conservation Agriculture Planning Grants Program, for the development of six conservation plans at Harbin EcoFarm, helping to bring our vision to fruition. The grant funds the hiring of expert conservationists to develop conservation plans such as Grazing, Soil Health, Pollination, Fish & Wildlife Conservation, and Carbon Farming.
After completing with water, road & fencing work, HCC began our Grazing Plan during the Spring and Summer of 2024, thanks in large part to Richard King, Certified Professional in Rangeland Management, and retired rangeland expert at USDA’s Resource Conservation Service. Richard completed the writing of the Harbin EcoFarm Grazing Plan in 2023.

You may have seen these friendly sheep visiting Harbin during the summer, helping to clear the brush.
The Conservation Agriculture Planning Grants Program (CAPGP) is a program in the Office of Environmental Farming and Innovation. This program will fund the development of plans that will help farmers and ranchers identify actions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, further environmental stewardship on farms and ranches and ensure agricultural food security into the future.” ~ CDFA Website
